About the Department

            The Department of Microbiology, Sengunthar Arts and Science College was established in 1993 with a view to provide knowledge, skill and services in microbiology. Department offering B.Sc Microbiology, M.Sc Applied Microbiology, M.Phil., Microbiology and Ph.D., Microbiology. Department has excellent infrastructure for teaching and research. The alumni of the department occupy government officials, microbiologist, scientist and great responsibilities in R&D institutions, pharmaceutical, biotech industries colleges and hospitals. The choices and opportunities in India and abroad for microbiologist make is feel at the top of a sky scraper. Many of the students have brought honor to the institution, including gold medals in the university examinations. The department has to its credit 14 gold medalists and 110 rank holders.

 Eligibility -B.Sc., Microbiology

             A candidate who has passed higher secondary examination in any one of the biological sciences (Botany, Zoology, Biology). (Academic/Vocational stream - Agri, Home Science, Poultry) under higher secondary board of examination, Tamil Nadu or as per norms set by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an examination accepted as Equivalent there to by the Syndicate subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereto are permitted to appear and qualify for the BSc., Microbiology.

 Higher Studies:

      After successful completion of B.Sc Microbiology degree the students can go for higher studies like M.Sc, Applied Microbiology and Master Degree in Life Sciences.
