ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

                        The Department was established in the year 2003 with the goal of educating innovations for the aspires and to meet up the technical needs of the industrial sector. Department offers a full time UG, PG Biotechnology programme, full time and part time M.Phil Biotechnology programme. Department provides the latest developments in the fields of pharmaceutical, drug discovery and delivery sectors, health care, diagnostic & therapeutics, plant ,animal &environmental fields along the core subjects. Department has highly qualified, experienced faculty members who actively involved in academics, research and extension activities. Department has spacious well equipped individual laboratories for UG, PG, Research and state of art seminar hall. Our students has bagged 9 gold medals and 40 rank holders so far in the University Examination.

OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT

            Biotechnology Graduates will be successful Professionals in Biotechnology field

            Biotechnology Graduates will pursue education with synergetic combination of the skills who will employable in core Biotech / Pharma industries

            Biotechnology Graduates will be socio-ethically responsible and to produce bioentrepreneurs

            Collaborative research project with other institute, Laboratory consultation and diagnostic services

            An MoU for the collobarative activities, research and consultancy

            Promoting the use of laboratory among young minds in specific areas

            Increasing the proportions of female bioentreprenurs

ELIGIBILITY FOR THE ADMISSION

            A candidate who passed higher secondary examination in any one of the biological science (Botany, Zoology, Biology), Academic/Vocational stream – Agri, Home Science,Poultry under higher secondary board of examination ,Tamilnadu or as per norms set by the Government of Tamil Nadu or an examination accepted as Equivalent there to by the syndicate subject to such conditions as may be prescribed thereto are permitted to appear and qualify for B.Sc.,Biotechnology

PROGRAMME OUTCOMES

1.         Students will able to apply the knowledge and principles of basic sciences and biological sciences to address problems and find solution to the complex issues through biotechnological tools and techniques.

2.         To provide education that leads to comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of biotechnology.

3.         Students will exhibit contemporary knowledge in Biotechnology and will be eligible for doing jobs in pharmaceutical and biotechnological Industry. 

4.         Students will be able to understand the potentials, and impact of biotechnological innovations on environment and their implementation for finding sustainable solution to issues pertaining to environment, health sector, agriculture, etc. 

5.         Students will be able to work individually as well as in team to survive in multidisciplinary environment. 

6.         Provides broad based training in technical skills in methods of biotechnology, also  possess oral and written communication skills

7.         Apply ethical principles and commit to follow professional ethics and norms and guidelines in the practice of biotechnology responsibly.

8.         Understanding the dynamism of biological sciences, technological changing needs are to be felt, positive attitude are to develop so as to prepare and engage in adapting to such changes through the process of life-long learning.

9.         Utilize technical skills acquired through lab experience and apply these skills in formulating solutions to life science questions.

10.       To educate and make them up to date with the current scientific literature, computer programs and web information.

11.       To produce responsible biotechnologists that can work within the interdisciplinary framework of biotechnology and related fields.

12.       An ability to recognize the ethical and professional responsibilities and the impact of technical and/or scientific solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC OUTCOMES (PSO)

1.         The Biotechnology course educates the students to Understand and apply the principles and techniques of cell and molecular interactions which prepares students for further education and/or employment in teaching.

2.         Creates the Knowledge of Basic research or the health professions, Research Development and Practice, Effective Communication, Pertaining with solutions to certain difficult environmental problems such as gene-environment interaction, detection of pollutants, elimination and treatment of toxic wastes, development of environment friendly products and improved energy sources.
