ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

                  The Department of English established in 2010 has a well-qualified, experienced, competent and committed faculty. The Department of English offers students opportunity to grow as writers, researchers and critical thinkers. The knowledge we get through the literary texts nourishes our critical mind and our imaginations. We sail through the rich  History of English literatures, British literatures, South Asian literatures, These literatures inspire the faculty and the students to express their ideas effectively not only in written but also in verbal communication. These new papers enhance the student’s interest and their career goals.

             The world is going through tremendous transformation and education effects them in a more positive way. Our department imbibes all the values and ethos through various programmes to the students. We have nearly 10 staff members and all of them are well equipped to make our department as an epitome of excellence.We welcome every aspiring student who seeks a course blended with more thought-provoking literary work of arts to enrich their knowledge with creativity.

Objectives of the Course

          To educate students in both the artistry and utility of the English Language.To make students aware of the different communicative skills, and to develop among them an ability to effectively communicate in English, both in written and spoken modes.To provide students with the critical faculties necessary in an academic environment, on the job, and in an increasingly complex, interdependent world.

Undergraduate Programme

To develop the students in communication skills in English.

To strengthen their ability to analyse all forms of literary expression.

To prepare them for careers and higher education.

Eligibility for Admission

            A pass in the higher Secondary Examination of TamilNadu Higher Secondary Board or some other Board accepted by the Syndicate as equivalent thereto. 

Programme Outcomes

PO – 1 Students should be familiar with representative literary and cultural texts within a significant number of historical, geographical, and cultural contexts.

PO – 2 Students should be able to apply critical and theoretical approaches to the reading and analysis of literary and cultural texts in multiple genres.

PO – 3 to identify, analyse, interpret and describe the critical ideas, values, and themes that appear in literary and cultural texts and understand the way these ideas, values, and themes inform and impact culture and society, both now and in the past.

PO – 4 Students should be able to write analytically in a variety of formats, including essays, research papers, reflective writing, and critical reviews of secondary sources.

PO – 5 to ethically gather, understand, evaluate and synthesize information from a variety of written and electronic sources.

PO – 6 Students should be able to understand the process of communicating and interpreting human experiences through literary representation using historical contexts and disciplinary methodologies

PO – 7 know the use of language at semantic and syntactic levels. The students could improve vocabulary.

PO – 8 to understand the structure and function of grammatical units.

PO – 9 Know phonological and morphological aspects of English.

PO – 10 know various genres in English literature like Indian English literature, British literature and American literature.

PO – 11 have enriched confidence to appear for competitive examinations.

PO-12 They will be familiar with the conventions of diverse textual genres including fiction, nonfiction, poetry, autobiography, biography, Journal, film, plays, editorials etc.  

PSO – 1 On successful completion of the Programme, the students will be accurate both in oral and written communication as they will be strong in Grammar and its usage..

PSO – 2 to enhance employability of the students by developing their linguistic competence and communicative skills.
